One morning when I woke up and drew the curtains of the Godavari Village Resort I had this vision... |

I think this hotel is one of the rare places in the valley where you have an excellent view combined with good food, quietness, clean air, and closeness to the city of Kathmandu. From here you can hire a taxi to drive up to the top of Phulchowky and walk down at the crack of dawn to watch birds. |

Even though visitors rave about Kathmandu and the valley one must consider that it became a stinking rotting kind of a city. The valley is large enough for one million people. But there are three million already living there. The garbage is thrown into the Vishnumati river right beside Thamel and produces a horrible smell because the river has not much water in November. They wait for the next monsoon. Until then it is an unforgetable disgusting adventure to take a walk along the river as I did once. In 1983 there were 140.000 people living in the valley and then again it wasn't the cleanest place in the world. |
